Rian Urding was appointed as Chief Executive Officer for London EV Company (USA) LLC (a Geely Group company) in January 2016. Rian will oversee all the company's strategic growth and expansion in the United States. In December 2017, the US company was re-branded to the London EV Company (USA) from Emerald Automotive.
Emerald Automotive was co-founded in 2009 by Rian Urding and Andy Tempest as an automotive start-up business focusing on light-weight, low-emission commercial vehicles. Rian joined the company full time in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer. In February 2014 Rian was instrumental in selling the entire business to the Chinese automotive OEM Geely, which also owns the London Taxi Company, Volvo Cars Corporation and Lotus Cars.
In September 2007 Rian was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Intelligent Energy Holdings plc, a clean power-systems company specialising in fuel cell technology research based at Loughborough University and Long Beach, California. During his tenure at Intelligent Energy Rian successfully guided the company through to profitability, having implemented a challenging 5-year business plan and raised a significant amount of private equity funding. Rian left Intelligent Energy in 2012 to focus on Emerald Automotive.
Rian trained with Price Waterhouse Coopers and following qualification as a ICAEW Chartered Accountant in 1999 has spent most of his career in high growth, Intellectual Property driven, deeply technical businesses.
Earlier in his career Rian was commissioned into the Royal Air Force. Later, Rian joined the British Army gaining a commission from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He stayed with the British Army for over 10 years and retired as a Captain.
