What Van? Britain’s largest van buyers guide has announced its annual awards for 2013.
The What Van? Awards are amongst the most sought after independent accolades in the industry and in 2013. They recognise the outstanding performers in 12 crucial light commercial vehicle categories as well as revealing the winner of the prestigious What Van? 2013 Van of the Year.
Each year the panel of What Van?’s s editorial staff draw on expertise gathered over decades of experience to select the vans, brands and innovations they believe most merit gaining a prize.
The Innovation Award for 2013 has been awarded to Emerald Automotive for its t-001, the prototype for a lightweight hybrid -electric van that Emerald believes could revolutionise large delivery fleets.
"Emerald’s t-001 is a bold and exciting plan that has the potential to lead the light commercial vehicle market in terms of a genuine usable low-emission alternative to the traditional diesel engine,” said What Van? Editor Paul Barker. “We’ll be watching with interest as the project develops, we like what we’ve seen so far, and hopefully it will come to fruition to give established manufacturers something serious to think about."
CEO Andy Tempest says "gaining this award from What Van? Is testament to the impact to the market place that our extended range electric Van will bring. It offers fleet operators reduced CO2 emissions and reduced running costs whilst maintaining payload and range capability".
